IDS is working in 32 villages in 3 districts of Karnataka to revitalize the local health traditions with locally available herbs. With the help of 160 local healers, IDS has identified the medicinal values of 350 species.
More than 32 species of rare and endangered medicinal plants are conserved in the campus. For the successful propagation of these valuable herbs we have established 16 nurseries through women groups and raised 96,000 saplings. These
self-help groups earned rupees 50,000 from the sale of medicinal plants.
IDS has developed 4950 kitchen herbal gardens and organized 144 training programmes for village forest committees, gram panchayat members, school children, forest officials and women groups.
Public awareness programmes were conducted and over 10000 people were given awareness about the medicinal plants.
